Easter Weekend in Quarantine

Easter Weekend, the weekend that we celebrate the death and rise of Jesus Christ.

Good Friday as we know it, the day that a beaten, bleeding man was forced to carry a 150 pound cross up Calvary Hill.   It is said the distance that He carried the cross was the length of 2 football fields.  Can you imagine?

His friends, mother watched as an innocent man was nailed to a cross to endure a slow painful death.  Jesus gave Himself up for this.  Could you do the same?

Today, I imagine, His friends, disciples, mother are trying to put the pieces together, mourning the death of their beloved.  Can you imagine the feelings, the emotions they were trying to process.  How could an innocent man be crucified with murderers and thieves?

Meanwhile, unknowingly, it cannot be seen, Jesus descends to Hell to take back the Keys to the Kingdom.  Can you imagine the look on Satan’s face when He shows up?  It must have been priceless.

And then as we all know, on the 3rd day Jesus makes a pit-stop before ascending onto His eternal Home. He told them He would return, my guess is they didn’t believe Him, as many still don’t today. Can you imagine the look on the faces of the ones that watched Him die and prepared His body for burial? Must have been priceless. Can you imagine being given one last moment with your beloved?    Do you think they were overwhelmed, full of joy, in awe and wonder, loaded with questions, confused?

I don’t know.  I just know that when I read my Bible or watch Bible movies, my spirit goes there.  I try to imagine what it would have been like to be there the last 3 years of the life of Jesus.  Knowing what I know now, I think it would have been very exciting.  However, if I had been there, not knowing what I know now, could I have followed Jesus?

Happy Easter … the Day of the Risen Lord and Savior.
